The Ataturk Monument ( Turkish Mersin Ataturk Anıtı ) is a bronze statue in the southern Turkish coastal city of Mersin , which depicts the founder of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk . The monument is located on ″ Republic Square ″ ( Cumhuriyet Meydanı ) right in front of the Halkevi of Mersin. The Ismet Inonu- -Straße located southwest. Until the 1960s, the Ataturk monument was on the Mediterranean coast , since the expansion of the port of Mersin it is 250 meters from the sea.

Tevfik Sırrı Gür, governor of the province of Icel , as Mersin was called then , from 1943 to 1947 , had the Ataturk monument built. It was inaugurated on April 23, 1944, the 24th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Parliament . The statue was designed by the Turkish professor of sculpture Kenan Yontunç , who had already designed several Ataturk monuments.

The monument consists of a marble podium and a bronze statue of Mustafâ Kemâl Pasha in military uniform. The height of the statue is 3.3 meters.
