Rolf Steinmann (born March 11, 1942 ; † 1986 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league for SC / FC Karl-Marx-Stadt , with whom he was GDR football champion in 1967.

Steinmann, who died early, began his football career in 1956 with the small company sports club Post in Karl-Marx-Stadt . Become eligible to play for the men's field, he moved in 1960, especially in the second-rate DDR-Liga ascended SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt . In the 1961/62 season he was involved in the promotion of his team to the GDR league . In the following years, the 1.76 m tall trained industrial clerk developed into a goalscorer who was usually used on the semi-right side of the storm. In 1964, 1965 and 1967 he was not only the top scorer of the Karl-Marx-Städter, but also landed at the top of the GDR top scorer list (2nd, 3rd and 6th place). In the all-time scorers list of SC / FC Karl-Marx-Stadt, Steinmann is second with 64 top division goals behind Eberhard Vogel (70) and in the entire league on place 61.

In the successful season of FC Karl-Marx-Stadt 1966/67 Steinmann belonged to the starting eleven, which surprisingly won the GDR championship title. With his 23 appearances and 10 goals, he contributed significantly to winning the title. Steinmann also owes his two international appearances to the championship. The FCK had thus qualified for the competition for the European Champion Clubs' Cup. He met the Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht in the first round and after two defeats (1: 3, 1: 2) had to say goodbye to the international stage. Steinmann was present in both matches and provided the only goal for his team in the first leg. In the GDR soccer cup competition in 1968/69 Steinmann made it to the final with FCK, but lost to 1. FC Magdeburg with a 4-0 draw.

When FC Karl-Marx-Stadt was relegated from the league in 1970, Steinmann had completed its last league season, in which it was used again in 13 point games. In his nine league years he had played a total of 170 point games. In his son Rico he found a prominent successor, who also played for FCK between 1985 and 1991 and became a 23-time national player.
