Claus Bauer

Claus Bauer (born October 21, 1935 ) was a football player at SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt . There he played two seasons in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

Athletic career

As a 20-year-old, Bauer was accepted into the top division squad of the central Saxon football stronghold SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt for the 1956 season. On March 25, 1956 he played in the match of the 3rd match day SC Motor - SC activist Brieske-Senftenberg (1: 1) as a left winger for the first time in the league. From the 13th day of the match he played his way into the regular eleven and at the end of the season had 15 league appearances on his account. With his five league goals, the newcomer was the club's second top scorer. His second league season was less successful, he was only used fourteen times in the 26 point games and only got two point goals. At the end of the season, the SC Motor was relegated to the I. GDR League , Bauer was only used again from the 13th matchday on. The new coach Hans Höfer let him play as a center forward in all of the remaining 14 league games, Bauer thanked this with six goals that made him the top scorer of his team. After the 1958 season, the sports club rose again, so that Bauer had to spend a season in the third-class II. GDR league . After he had played there in various attack positions, he was returned to the second division in 1960, the standard left wing of the Karl-Marx-Städter , but was missing in nine point games. This was followed by the mammoth season 1961/62 with 39 rounds, as the game operation was switched back to the summer-spring mode. It was also Bauer's last season with the 1st team of SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt. On April 16, 1961, he played in the game of the 6th match day SC Motor - SC Progress Weissenfels (2-1), his last competitive game for the GDR league team. During the season he moved to the third division club BSG Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt , with whom he was promoted to the first GDR league. With the company sports association , he played another 21 GDR league games in 1962/63, in which he scored six goals. Then he retired from the first team of BSG Motor West and reappeared in the top league for the 1964/65 season at BSG Wismut Aue . On the 2nd matchday he had in the match between SC Neubrandenburg - Wismut Aue (1: 1) he had his last appearance in higher-class football. Since 1956 he had completed 30 league games (7 goals) and 53 games (9 goals) in the first GDR league. There are also several appearances in the 2nd GDR League.
