Hans-Joachim Steinfurth (born February 15, 1939 ) was a football player in the GDR . In the top division of the East German Football Association, the Oberliga , he played for SC Neubrandenburg and Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt .

Steinfurth began to play organized football in the junior teams of the lower-class company sports associations (BSG) Traktor in Jarmen and Verkehrsbetriebe in Demmin , which are based in the northeast of the GDR . At the beginning of the football season in 1959 he played with the BSG unit Greifswald in the second-rate GDR league . In 25 of the 26 point games he was preferably used on the left attacking side, was the best scorer of his team with 15 goals and landed fourth in the league's scorers list. Steinfurth was also the most successful attacker for Greifswald in the following seasons and had found his regular position as a left winger. When he left the BSG unit after the end of the 1962/63 season, he had played 102 of 117 possible point games for them in the GDR league and scored 56 goals.

In the summer of 1963, Steinfurth moved to league rivals SC Neubrandenburg. Here, too, he was immediately a regular player on the left winger and with 27 out of 30 point games and 15 goals scored significantly contributed to the promotion to the GDR top division. In the league season 1964/65 Steinfurth played all 26 point games and was together with Kurt Weisser with seven goals again the most accurate shooter of his team, although he moved from left wing attack to midfield during the season. However, the Neubrandenburg could not assert themselves in the upper league and were relegated to the GDR league after a year.

Steinfurth played twelve point games in the GDR league season 1965/66 for SC Neubrandenburg and then moved on January 1, 1966 to BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, which was also playing in the GDR league. There he moved back into the attack and played as a half-left striker all point games of the second half of the 1966. In the following three seasons Steinfurth was used in defense and was with 85 of 90 possible point game stakes safe regular player of the steelworkers. After the 1968/69 season steel Eisenhüttenstadt rose to the league. In his second league season after Neubrandenburg, Steinfurth could continue to maintain his status as a regular player in 1969/70 with 20 stakes. With Eisenhüttenstadt he only played first class for one year, after which he had to accept relegation for the second time in his career. Then he could not even play in the GDR league, because the BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt was downgraded to the third-class district league for violating the statutes . After the immediate rise, Steinfurth played two seasons in the GDR league from 1971 to 1973. He always oscillated between midfield and defense and, although now over 30 years old, played almost all point games until the end. In the summer of 1973 he ended his career as a professional football player and occasionally helped out in the 2nd team in the district league. In Eisenhüttenstadt Steinfurth had completed his 20 league games and the time in the district league 146 point games in the second-rate GDR league. From 1974 he worked at Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt as a school trainer.
