Wolfgang Müller (born February 4, 1934 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1956 he played for SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

The squad of the GDR upper division SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt for the 1956 season (calendar year season) also included the 22-year-old striker Wolfgang Müller. Shortly after the start of the season, coach Walter Fritzsch was forced to look for a replacement for his regular winger Dieter Möbius . After several unsuitable experiments, Fritzsch tried it in the seventh league game with Wolfgang Müller, who had not yet been used. In the match between SC Motor and BSG Rotation Babelsberg (1-0), Müller was placed as left winger, but was replaced in the 71st minute by Joachim Speck , who in turn made his season debut. After his first appearance, Müller disappeared from the 1st team of SC Motor for several years. It was not until the 1961/62 season, when GDR football returned to the summer-spring season, that Müller reappeared in the squad of Karl Marx townspeople. These had an odyssey into the third division and were currently playing in the second division I. GDR league . Because of the system change, 39 point games had to be played there in the current season. Wolfgang Müller was only used in four league games and thus had little role in the successful return to the league at the end of the season.

After that, the SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt was no longer used for Müller, who then joined the company sports community (BSG) Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1963 , which was in its second season in the GDR League (the 2nd GDR League had been hired). Müller was able to win a regular place in the team immediately when he played 29 of the 30 league games. Also in the following season 1964/65 he was part of the player base and was used in all 30 point games. At the end of the season, the BSG Motor West had to relegate to the third-class district league and did not return to the GDR-wide game operation. The same was true for Wolfgang Müller.

Note

  1. Most sources give 1940 as the year of birth. That is obviously wrong, since Müller would have been 16 years old when he was first deployed. The year of birth used here is given by DFSF (see above).
