Career in football

Second division football

When the second-rate GDR league was launched in the GDR in the 1950/51 season , the company sports association (BSG) Fewa Chemnitz , which was renamed BSG Chemie during the season , was one of the first teams . The 20-year-old junior player Joachim Speck was also part of the expanded line-up. He made his debut in the league game operation of the 1st team late, on the penultimate day of the season. In the game BSG Chemie - Concordia Wilhelmsruh (5: 1) on March 11, 1951, Speck was used as a half-left striker and made a lasting impression with three goals. Nevertheless, coach Karl Haueisen made him wait until the 7th matchday again in the second division season 1951/52 before he was used again. Speck benefited from the failure of striker Heinz Weber, whom he replaced by the end of the season and thus made 14 appearances in the 22-lap season. With his eight goals in the game, he again proved that he was dangerous. The start of Speck's third GDR league season went as usual, it only came back into play when Haueisen had to rebuild the entire team due to the simultaneous loss of two regular players. This time Speck did not join the team until matchday 9, but then played the remaining 16 rounds as a right winger. His low number of goals was unusual, he only got one goal.

Under the new coach Heinz Hartmann and with the departure of the two regular strikers Werner Amboß and Heinz Weber, Speck's situation improved from the start in the 1953/54 season. As a half-right striker, he played all 26 point games and found his accuracy again with eight goals. He was one of the guarantors for the promotion to the GDR-Oberliga, which the BSG, after the city renaming now as Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt, was able to celebrate at the end of the season. By this time, Speck had played 57 GDR league games in which he had scored 20 goals.

DDR-Oberliga

Speck's first league season 1954/55 began like his early GDR league seasons. He only made his debut in the first division on the 8th matchday in the encounter between BSG Chemie and SC Einheit Dresden (4: 3). At the end of the season he had made 18 point games as a right attacker, but only scored three goals. The following league season was held in 1956 every calendar year, and the previous company sports community now took on as SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt. Again, Speck had a difficult start and was only used again from the 7th match day. Although he was called up 19 times in 26 rounds, his goal rate remained weak again with two hits. In 1957, Speck left the GDR league with the same number of goals. With Walter Fritzsch there was again a new coach, but he relied on Speck from the start of the season. Used in all attacking positions Speck came to 24 games, but at the end of the season there was relegation from the league. His record after three league seasons were 61 appearances and seven goals.

End of career

The GDR league season in 1958 began as a 27-year-old and a regular in the team. After he had played 10 of 13 point games in the first half of the season, he was no longer used until the end of the season. When the SC Motor had to play in the 2nd GDR League after relegation in 1959 , Speck was no longer part of the squad. He later played for BSG Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt , with which he was promoted to the First GDR League in 1962 .
