Soccer career

Haustein began his sporting career in the children's and youth sports school in Klingenthal with the aim of becoming a ski jumper. In 1956, however, he began to play football at Aufbau Klingenthal. In 1959 he was delegated to the Dresden Football School, which trained football players for SG Dynamo Dresden. The prerequisite was the obligation to serve in the People's Police for at least two years. In 1963, the 1.78 m tall house stone was a short-term player for Dynamo Dresden in the GDR youth national team, with which he played two international matches. In the 1961/62 season he was part of the Dynamo team that made it to the GDR league. Haustein was a regular player in his first league season in 1962/63 as a central defender and completed 24 of the 26 point games played. Newcomer Dynamo Dresden could only stay in the league for one season, and so Haustein had to play again in the second-rate GDR league in 1963/64 . After the immediate resurgence, he was there in 1964/65 in all 26 league point games, where he was alternately used in all defensive positions. In his all-round role in the defense nothing changed until 1967, in the 1967/68 season he advanced several times into the midfield. At the end of this season Dynamo was again determined to be relegated, but this time, too, succeeded in returning to the league immediately. Haustein was involved in promotion with 28 of 30 GDR league league games. He played the league season 1969/70 with 19 point games mainly as a right defender. His most successful season took place in 1970/71. With again 19 league appearances in the defense line, he was involved in winning the GDR championship. He was also the right defender on June 2, 1971 in the GDR Cup final , which Dynamo Dresden won 2-1 over FC Dynamo from Berlin. In 1971/72 the end of the football career of the now 30-year-old Haustein was already in sight. He was only used sporadically in ten league games. He played his last league season in 1972/73, which he finished as a champion for the second time after eleven appearances. At the championship celebration on the last match day, June 23, 1973, he played his last league game in the encounter between Dynamo Dresden and FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (2-1) as a libero in front of 30,000 spectators. Between 1962 and 1973 he played 181 league games (one goal) and five European Cup games.

Trainer

Haustein had already obtained a sports teacher diploma during his time as a soccer player. With this requirement Dynamo Dresden took over his master player immediately after his retirement in the coaching staff. He worked in the junior division until 1978, after which he held the position of head coach as the superior of the "responsible upper division coach". From 1982 he looked after the 2nd team of Dynamo Dresden, with which he rose in 1984 in the GDR league. When at the end of the 1985/86 season the coaching collective of the Dynamo league team was changed, Haustein took over the post of assistant coach under the new league coach Eduard Geyer from the summer of 1986 . At the beginning of the 1988/89 season Haustein took over the training of the GDR league club Wismut Gera .
