Athletic career

For the 1957 calendar year season, the league promoted SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt took 18-year-old Dieter Nötzold into its squad. On the 7th Bundesliga matchday, May 12, 1957, coach Walter Fritzsch let him appear for the first time in the match between SC Motor and Motor Zwickau . By the end of the season, Nötzold played a total of eight league games in which he scored one goal. Then the SC Motor had to relegate to the second-rate first GDR league , in which Nötzold completed 22 of the 26 league games in 1958 and scored two goals. The Karl-Marx-Städter were passed through to the third-class 2nd GDR league within one season , but managed to get promoted again immediately with Nötzold. In the following two seasons, Nötzold remained a regular in the motor team. While he missed only one of the 26 league games in 1960, he was absent in the 1961/62 season, in which the GDR league returned to the summer-spring rhythm with 39 point games, only five games. After this season, SC Motor returned to the top league, but Nötzold left the sports club and did not return to the GDR-wide football game. Within four seasons he had come to eight league games (one goal) and 81 GDR league games (two goals).
