Léon Augustin Lhermitte
Léon Augustin Lhermitte (born July 31, 1844 in Mont-Saint-Père , † July 28, 1925 in Paris ) was a French artist. He became famous for his realistic depictions of rural life. He stayed true to this subject all his life. Lhermitte was greatly influenced by Jean-François Millet , who was his greatest role model. One of Lhermitte's greatest admirers was Vincent van Gogh , who judged him: “He is the real master at depicting characters, can do whatever he wants with them - for the ensemble, neither the color nor the local tone is outstanding, but the one Power of light like Rembrandt did. There is something amazingly masterful in everything he does - especially in modeling, where the deepest honesty leads him to success. "
