The Brandenburger SC Süd 05 is a sports club from Brandenburg an der Havel . The best-known division of the club are the footballers who used to play in the second highest GDR league . There are also the departments canoeing, cycling, gymnastics, volleyball and water hiking. The former bowling department joined SG Rot-Weiss Brandenburg. The home of the footballers is the Werner-Seelenbinder sports field in Brandenburg's northern district . BSG Motor Süd Brandenburg was the direct forerunner of the South . The historical section of the BSG was, for example, cycling on the former cycling track at Werner-Seelenbinder-Sportplatz.

From the founding phase to the Second World War

As early as 1901, soccer was being played on the so-called model meadow outside the urban development . In the spring of 1902, an advertisement for the establishment of a football club was invited. 15 sports enthusiasts came together in the old town's rifle house and founded the Germania football club. Due to disagreements in the club, some footballers split off and founded the Tasmania club. This state lasted only a short time. At a joint meeting in the White Swan on October 13, 1905, both clubs united, abandoned their names and founded the Brandenburger BC 05, which chose the colors of the Chur and capital city blue-white-green as the club banner. The first game under the club name took place on November 22, 1905 against Prussia Burg (near Magdeburg) and ended 0: 2.

The first "title win" in 1912 was the district championship . Associated with this was promotion to the second highest division in the province of Brandenburg.

After the outbreak of the First World War , gaming operations had to be stopped in March 1916. But already in June 1918 a call was made to start again. The club management managed to lease the Schützenwiese. Strengthened by a few old (many were killed or wounded) and young people, the Brandenburg Ball Game Club soon reopened the game. The BBC 05 was assigned to the 1st class of the Brandenburg-Rathenow district and was soon able to play in its old strength.

The next title was won in the 1922/23 season. The BBC became 1st class champions in the Brandenburg / Rathenow district and rose to the Westkreisliga, the second highest division in Berlin-Brandenburg at the time.

The twenties were also successful in youth work. Championship after championship was achieved. The 1st student team won nine championships between 1920 and 1930, the 1st youth and 1st juniors three times each. The first pupils also won the DFB youth convention in 1927.

This class could be held until the 1931/32 season. In 1932/33 now playing in the third highest division (Gauklasse A), it immediately succeeded in occupying the first place qualifying for promotion. Due to the changed political situation in Germany and the associated restructuring of football in the German Reich (introduction of the 16 Gauligen), a political qualification was added to the sporting qualification of many clubs, which the BBC 05 did not pass. At least it was not banned. Due to the compulsory affiliation of various Brandenburg clubs (such as the FVB, as well as other sports groups such as wrestlers, etc.), the BSC 05 was founded in August 1933. The former BBC 05 undoubtedly benefited from this political decision with the arrival of some strong players.

In the 1933/34 season, the BSC 05 of the 1st district class Prignitz-Rathenow again took first place and was now promoted back to the district class (second highest division). As early as 1935, the BSC 05 played in the promotion round with six other teams for promotion to the Gauliga Berlin-Brandenburg . This development came a little too early for the BSC 05. But two years later the big goal was achieved. Together with Friesen Cottbus, two provincial clubs made it into the Berlin phalanx.

Already in the second Gauliga game it could be shown how strong the "provincial team" is. Tennis Borussia Berlin was beaten 3-1 in front of over 5,000 spectators. The class could be held until 1941/42. Names like W.Kausmann I, P.Wiese, H.Rinkenbach I, W.Schuder, Sontowski, Bertz, P.Woischke, Münscher, Hage, but also guest players such as Hans Neuweiler ( 1. FC Pforzheim ), Raasch ( Hertha BSC , Wacker 04 Berlin ), the former 7-time international Tiefel (BSV 92, Eintracht Frankfurt ), Leo Rutecki (SpvG Herten, SC Münster 08; former top scorer of the Gauliga-Westphalia with Schalke 04 and their sizes) or Braunert (Fortuna Leipzig, Leipzig / East unit). The big clubs like Union Oberschöneweide or Hertha BSC were often challenged and one or the other unexpected success was achieved in front of up to 10,000 spectators. Twice you were still in the promotion games to the Gauliga, but did not make this promotion. The blood toll of the Second World War could no longer be compensated. In September 1944 the game was stopped.

From the beginning again after the Second World War until today

After May 8, 1945, people also tried to return to everyday life in the city of Brandenburg. So it came to friendlies between the districts and to city games. Here, too, the famous names from the prewar period could be found in the individual lists. Unfortunately, too many good footballers died on the battlefields of World War II. In addition to the many lesser-known players, Paul Woischke, Otto Hage, Günter Kausmann II and Willy Tiefel also fell.

In 1946/47 the first game series "Around Berlin" took place. Due to the special political status of Berlin, the province of Brandenburg was not included in Berlin gaming operations. Even the Soviet military administration showed no particular interest in changing this. That is why committed officials in Potsdam organized this series of games so that football in the province did not come to a complete standstill. The SG Brandenburg-West is to be regarded as the successor to BSC 05; although most of the former Gauliga players played in the other Brandenburg post-war team, the SG Police Brandenburg (North). From 1948 on they played under the name BSG Traktorwerke Brandenburg.

When the GDR league was formed, no team from Brandenburg was taken into account, as Brandenburg football could no longer reach the pre-war strength. The good players were drawn to the outskirts of Berlin or to coal-rich Lausitz, away from the destroyed industrial center of Brandenburg.

To counter the problem of poor quality, in 1949 the BSG Tractor Works West formed the ZSG Werner Seelenbinder Brandenburg with the other BSGs (including BSG Ernst Thälmann and BSG Konsum) . Nevertheless, one could no longer reach the playing strength of the former equally strong or weaker teams like Rotation Babelsberg (Nowawes) or activist Brieske / Ost (Grube Marga).

In 1950 the ZSG was dissolved again. The league affiliation took over the BSG tractor works Brandenburg, from which the BSG Motor Süd Brandenburg was finally founded on February 20, 1951.

The BSG Motor Süd was promoted to the GDR league in 1952 . After relegation in 1955, the team played for seven years until 1962 in the 2nd GDR League , the third highest division.

In 1958 the team was about to jump into the second-rate GDR league, but the decisive game against Dynamo Dresden was lost 2: 4 nV.

In the 1961/62 season, the promotion finally succeeded, but the league could not be held.

There were great successes in the 1950s and 1960s in youth work. The first student team was GDR champion in 1965, the youth in 1955 GDR runner-up. Countless successes came in the youth department, which were achieved under the leadership of very good coaches. Many good players were able to prove this later, even with higher-class clubs. Lutz Eigendorf and Steffen Freund are the only representatives to be mentioned here .

The first men's team played in the following years after 1963 in the Potsdam district league. Three times (1978, 1980 and 1983) he was promoted to the GDR league, but was immediately relegated again.

On June 8, 1990, BSG Motor Süd was renamed BSC Süd 05 and so returned to its prewar roots.

With the reallocation of classes after the NOFV joined the DFB, BSC Süd 05 came into the district league in 1990. However, through a syndicate with Chemie Premnitz you could play in the regional league and retained this status in 1991 after the syndicate was dissolved. 1999 made the leap into the league . After five years in this division, the club rose again in 2004, but qualified again in 2008 for the league and was able to hold the class in the following years.
