The Brandenburg state football class was one of the five top football state classes in the area of the Soviet occupation zone and the German Democratic Republic . It was held from 1946 to 1952 and determined the football champions of the state of Brandenburg . After the introduction of the GDR Oberliga and the GDR League , the national class was only third class from the 1950/51 season.

history

As early as 1945 there were individual championships at the municipal level, but the staging of a zone championship was prohibited. The SG Cottbus-Ost have been handed down as the winner in Cottbus, the SG Babelsberg as the winner in Potsdam and the SG Frankfurt as the winner in Frankfurt (Oder) . From 1946, state championships were held at the state level. In 1946/47 the national champion was determined by the knockout system , two clubs from four regional leagues each qualified for the event. In 1947/48 a similar system was used, here the winners from six regional leagues qualified for the knockout round. In both seasons the SG Cottbus Ost was Brandenburg football champions. In the 1948 newly introduced soccer east zone championship in 1948 , in which the winners and runners-up of the individual state championships met, Cottbus reached the quarter-finals.

From the 1948/49 season , the state championship was held in a round-robin tournament. In 1948 ten clubs played in the East and West seasons, the winners of the two seasons met in finals. The SG Babelsberg won the state championship of Brandenburg, at the soccer east zone championship in 1949 , however, the club was also eliminated in the quarter-finals. With the introduction of the GDR Oberliga , the Brandenburg state football class was second class from the 1949/50 season . From this season onwards, it was played on a single track with 14 teams. In a play-off, the ZSG Großräschen prevailed against the ZSG Textil Cottbus . With this victory, the club was allowed to participate in the promotion round to the GDR Oberliga 1950/51 , but failed in this. Instead, he rose with three other teams in the newly established, second-rate GDR soccer league in 1950/51 .

With the founding of the GDR league in the 1950/51 season, the national class was only third class. The tournament format was retained, the state champion of Brandenburg rose directly to the GDR soccer league. Since the federal states in the GDR were liquidated in the summer of 1952 and 14 districts took their place , GDR football had to adapt to the new administrative structure with its league system. The national leagues were dissolved and replaced by 14 district leagues .
