Kurt Arndt (born August 5, 1873 in Frankfurt an der Oder ; † November 13, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German chemist (technical electrochemistry ).

Life

Kurt Arndt was the son of the high school teacher Adolf Arndt and studied from 1892 at the Technical University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1897 at the University of Basel (tension and molecular dispersion of organic compounds), where he became assistant to Georg Wilhelm August Kahlbaum . From 1902 he was a private lecturer at the TH Berlin. He also taught mathematics at the military academy. In 1922 he became associate professor and in 1929 director of the Institute for Technical Electrochemistry at the TH Berlin. In 1938 he retired. He also worked as a chemist in various industrial companies (Chemische Fabrik Grünau, Plania-Werke, etc.).

He improved various electrolysis processes, with corrosion, electrode materials and the improvement and development of batteries and accumulators. In 1902 he developed a process for the electrolytic extraction of metallic calcium.

In 1911 he applied for a patent for an inexpensive and simple process for the electrolytic production of sodium perborate , which was used as a bleaching agent in detergents such as Persil .
