history

In 1248 the church was named as a branch of St. Pölten and in 1260 it was elevated to a parish church. In 1361 the church became sovereign through an exchange. In 1529 the Turks caused damage. With 1633 the church belongs to the Hohenegg dominion . The church has served as the burial place of the Lords of Hohenegg since 1675 and as the burial place of the Montecuccoli family since 1845 .

The Romanesque church from the 13th century with a nave and choir has a sacristy built to the southwest of the choir, which was probably originally a separate structure (as a Karner or round church with an apse) over a horseshoe-shaped floor plan. The tower presented in the north was built around 1400. Around 1600, after the side entrances of the nave were walled up, a vestibule was added to the tower, which today serves as an entrance to the organ gallery. The sacristy with oratory northeast of the choir was added at the end of the 17th century.
