Georg Morawitz (born April 22, 1923 ) is a former German soccer player who won the GDR soccer championship in 1952 with Turbine Halle .

Athletic career

On August 23, 1950, Georg Morawitz became a celebrated hero in the Saxony-Anhalt district town of Burg . With his second-class soccer team ZSG Burg he was at home in the quarter-finals of the GDR soccer cup against last year's East Zone champion ZSG Union Halle . In this encounter, center forward Morawitz scored three goals and was instrumental in his team's surprising 4-3 victory over the league team . Burg only failed in the semi-finals against the upper division KWU Erfurt (1: 4).

Previously, Morawitz had qualified with the ZSG Burg with a second place in the state class Saxony-Anhalt for the newly created second-class GDR league . In their first season in 1950/51, when the Burg started as a BSG unit, Morawitz completed all 18 point games and was the second best scorer with eleven goals. His goal danger prompted the BSG Turbine Halle, successor to the ZSG Union, to bring the 28-year-old Morawitz into their league team for the 1951/52 season. Coach Alfred Schulz offered Morawitz in the first three league games as a striker, but then replaced him with Wolfgang Stops, who was two years his junior . After that, Morawitz did not come to any further league appearances and thus had only a small share in the later win of the GDR championship of the Halle residents.

After his involvement in Halle, Georg Morawitz ended his career as a competitive athlete.
