Heinz Schleif (born March 3, 1926 ) is a former German football player. With Turbine Halle he became East German soccer champion in 1952.

Athletic career

Schleif played his first games in the East German league in 1950 with the company sports community (BSG) Turbine Halle, the east zone champion from 1949 . After two disappointing seasons, in which the Halle team only finished fifth and sixth respectively, they were able to live up to their actual role as favorites in the 1951/52 season and won the GDR championship. The so-called “magic square” with the runners Rappsilber , Knefler and the two half-strikers Walter Schmidt and Schleif played a decisive role in this . With his nine championship goals, Schleif was not only one of the Turbine team's most accurate goalscorers, he was also one of the three players who played all 36 point games. Although starting with an almost unchanged team, Turbine crashed in 1952/53 to 13th place and played a long time against relegation. At the end of the season, many regular players left the BSG in disappointment with the suppression of the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 . Schleif was one of the few who stayed and ensured the relegation of the newly formed team in 1953/54, which was safely achieved with eighth place. In the summer of 1954, Schleif was one of the players who joined the football section of the newly created SC Chemie Halle-Leuna . However, when the team was relegated from the league after just one year in 1955, the 28-year-old Schleif also left Halle with nine goals after 115 games in the GDR league and joined the West German league club Bayer 04 Leverkusen . After relegation in 1956, Schleif played a few years with Leverkusen in the second-class second league .
