Gerhard Thomas

Gerhard Thomas (born May 26, 1926 ) is a former German soccer player who was active between 1950 and 1952 for Turbine Halle in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR soccer . In 1952 he was GDR soccer champion with Turbine Halle.

Athletic career

Gerhard Thomas played his first league game at the age of 24 for Turbine Halle. On the 3rd match day of the 1950/51 season he was used by coach Fred Schulz as a right wing runner . Then he had to wait half a year before he was called up again in the 28th league game. In 1951, Thomas was also a member of the GDR student selection team with which he took part in the World Festival of Youth and Students . In the 1951/52 season Turbine Halle was GDR champion. Thomas was involved with eight point games. He started six times and was used as a defender.

In the seasons 1953/54 and 1954/55 Thomas was part of the football section of the University Sports Association (HSG) Wissenschaft Halle , which was converted into the Sports Club Wissenschaft Halle in 1955. The team played in the second-rate GDR league . In both seasons Thomas played twelve point games, in the 1954/55 season he scored two point game goals. Then Thomas said goodbye to high-class football at the age of 31.
