Gerhard Hellmuth (born July 6, 1922 ) is a former German soccer player. He played from 1950 to 1954 for EHW / Stahl Thale in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . There he played 76 point games in which he scored twelve goals.

Athletic career

In the 5th league game of the 1950/51 season of the Eisenhüttenwerk Thale sports community on September 24, 1950, Gerhard Hellmuth played his first game in the elite league of GDR football at the age of 28. He scored the first league goal two game days later in the encounter between Motor Zwickau and SG EHW Thale (4: 1). By the end of the season in which the SG EHW was converted into the company sports association (BSG) Stahl Thale, Hellmuth was used 23 times in 34 point games. At first he was called up as a striker, but after that he played mainly in midfield. He scored three goals in the league games. Even in the season 1951/52 Hellmuth was not used consistently in the league. In the mammoth season with 36 point games, he was only used in 24 games, played in a variety of positions and came back to three goals. In the 1952/53 season, the BSG Stahl Thale achieved fifth place, the best result of their senior league membership. For Hellmuth, the playing time was again not optimal, he was only used four times in the first half of the season, only then was he regularly called up as a center forward and scored five goals in 22 point games. Hellmuth's last league season was also the last season for Stahl Thale in the league. While Hellmuth was called up only seven times in the 28 league games in 1953/54 and only scored one goal, his team ended up on a relegation zone. In the second division season 1954/55 Hellmuth was only used in two point games without scoring. Stahl Thale did not manage to stay in the league due to a league reform with the reduction from three seasons to one season, and Hellmuth ended his career in higher-class football at the age of 33.
