Walter Franke (born October 31, 1931 ) is a former German football player who was active for Turbine Halle from 1951 to 1953 in the top division of GDR football, the GDR Oberliga . In 1951/52 he was part of the GDR championship team at Turbine Halle.

Athletic career

On September 9, 1951, Franke's senior league career began when he was used as a left winger for 60 minutes in the third league game of the 1951/52 season by the company sports community (BSG) Turbine Halle in the home game against BSG Motor Oberschöneweide (1: 1). It remained in this season, in which Turbine Halle was champion, in a league use. During the current season, Franke moved to the University Sports Association (HSG) Wissenschaft Halle in the second-rate GDR league . There he played 18 point games and with his five goals was one of the best shooters at the HSG. For the 1952/53 season Franke returned to the BSG Turbine, was set in the first five league games as a left winger and also scored his first league goal on matchday three against Lok Stendal . After that, he was only used occasionally and played only twelve point games in the 32-game season. Franke played his last league season in 1953/54, in which he only played eleven games in the first half of the season and scored another goal. Franke then rejoined the HSG Wissenschaft Halle, which was upgraded to a sports club over the course of the season. From 1954 to 1957 he played 45 championship games in the GDR league and scored 15 goals. With 13 goals he was the team's best scorer in the 1956 season (introduction of the calendar year game rhythm). In 1958 Franke ended his career as a competitive athlete and went to the district class representative (5th league) BSG Turbine Erfurt.
