Günter Heyse (born July 1, 1925 ) was a soccer player in Halle (Saale) and Bremen . With the BSG Turbine Halle he was GDR champion in 1952, with SV Werder Bremen he reached the final round of the German championship in 1959.

Athletic career

When the east zone champion of 1949 ZSG Union Halle started the first season of the football league founded by the German Sports Committee for the Soviet occupation zone , the 24-year-old Heyse was also part of the squad. After a 5th place in 1950 and 6th place in 1951, the people of Halle, competing since 1950 as the company sports club (BSG) Turbine, finished the 1951/52 season as GDR champions. In the 36-round season, right-back Heyse was involved in winning the championship with 29 appearances. In 1952/53 he completed his last season for Turbine Halle. Disappointed about the suppression of the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 , he left the BSG at the age of almost 28 after a total of 79 league appearances together with three other players in the summer of 1953 and joined the north German league club Werder Bremen. In 1959, Bremen was runner-up in North Germany with Heyse and took part in the final round of the German championship after a qualifying match against Borussia Neunkirchen. Heyse played both the qualifying game and all six preliminary round matches and was always called up as a midfielder. With just one win, Bremen was only bottom of the group. Heyse remained active at Werder Bremen until the end of the 1959/60 season, after which he ended his career as a competitive athlete at the age of 35. Then he was a youth coach at Werder Bremen, in 1968 he coached the district division TuS Vahr.
