Rolf Fritzsche came from the small Thuringian club Chemie Rositz, where he played in the first team at the age of 17. As an outstanding talent, he was delegated to the “Unity East Leipzig” club. He excelled, so that he was accepted into the soccer section of the "German University of Physical Culture" (DHfK), together with over 40 young talents who - divided into two teams - played in the 2nd division of the DFV . They were trained under professional conditions by the Hungarian coach János Gyarmati . The rise in the league did not succeed. Thereupon he was delegated to the army sports club Vorwärts Berlin and committed himself for a period of five years. In 1955 he came as a substitute in the international matches against Romania and Bulgaria to two missions in the GDR national team. After the “football soldiers” had to be content with the runner-up in the 1956/57 round, they won the championship with the ZASK Vorwärts Berlin in 1957/58 . In September 1959, Rolf Fritzsche left the border to West Berlin, which was still open.

In the West, 1959–1970

He briefly joined Tennis Borussia Berlin , together with Horst Assmy . However, both were blocked for one year due to lack of clearance. Since Berlin was a dangerous place for refugees in those days, Fritzsche moved to the southwest of Germany and signed with FK Pirmasens . His suspension, which had not yet expired, extended to the date of the DFB Cup semi-final game, which took place on September 7, 1960 between Karlsruher SC and FK Pirmasens. The DFB game committee subsequently canceled the 4: 3 success of Pirmasens because of the use of the ineligible Rolf Fritzsche. Pirmasens lost the replay without Fritzsche with 0-2 goals.

It was not until the 1961/62 round that it was used, now “legally”, for the FKP. In 28 games he scored 24 goals and Pirmasens reached the runner-up in the Oberliga Südwest and moved into the final round of the German soccer championship. Fritzsche was convincing as a conductor and as a goal scorer. National coach Sepp Herberger reacted and used the half-forward with scoring qualities in test matches to find a squad for the 1962 World Cup in Chile. On August 30, 1961, he played in a DFB selection against the city team of Berlin. On September 6, 1961 he played in Wuppertal for the DFB against a Luxembourg selection and he was also in use in two games in the southwest selection. He convinces with playing ability and goal danger. The 1962 World Cup in Chile took place without Fritzsche.

The Hamburger SV signed him to Round 1962/63. In international friendly matches against Red Star Belgrade and FC Santos with Pelé , Fritzsche convinced the HSV fans of the value of his commitment before the start of the round. Although he won the championship in the Oberliga Nord alongside Uwe Seeler and thus made it back to the finals , he still did not succeed Klaus Stürmer .

After only one season, he left Hamburg and moved to KSV Hessen Kassel in the Regionalliga Süd for the 1963/64 round at the start of the Bundesliga . In a Hamburg newspaper commentary on his move: "Although he has a good relationship with many HSV players on the outside, he has basically remained a stranger". Fritzsche received the professional security in Kassel, which was an essential reason for his change, and now played again at the side of his old friend Horst Assmy. The Hessians became champions in the Regionalliga Süd. With 55:21 points, they relegated the high favorites FC Bayern Munich with Rainer Ohlhauser in attack with three points ahead of second place in the table and moved into the first round of promotion to the Bundesliga. The Kassel team missed promotion to the Bundesliga, as did Bayern Munich's favorite team. Hannover 96 prevailed with coach Helmut Kronsbein . His old teammates from FK Pirmasens under the leadership of playmaker Helmut Kapitulski also kidnapped the points from the Kassel Aue Stadium.

Rolf Fritzsche directed Hessen Kassel until the 1969/70 round. From season to season he was surrounded more and more by young talents. At the age of 37 he let his career end in the first amateur, senior and celebrity teams. On the occasion of his farewell, the Kasseler newspaper said: “Rolf Fritzsche is perhaps the most technically perfect footballer who has ever played in a Kassel club, a master of filigree, a veteran in every way. Fritzsche was worth every penny of the transfer, a player who kept himself in top shape for seven years and was there to the last when he was needed ”.

Finale

Professionally, Rolf Fritzsche worked in the field service of the Herkules brewery in Kassel.
