Mario Maek (* 14. November 1964 ) is a former German football player. Kevin Maek's father worked for BFC Dynamo and 1. FC Union Berlin during his career .

career

Mario Maek comes from the youth division of BFC Dynamo , for which he ran through all youth teams from 1973. Maek was appointed six times to the U-21 national team of the GDR . In the mid-eighties, the defender made the leap into the league squad of the GDR record champions, with whom he won the GDR championship four times between 1984 and 1987. He reached the final of the FDGB Cup twice in 1984 and 1985, and lost to SG Dynamo Dresden in both finals .

Maek did not make his breakthrough as a regular at the BFC, but made a total of six appearances in the European Cup against Austria Wien , FC Aberdeen and AS Roma .

In 1988 Maek moved to local rivals, 1. FC Union Berlin . With his first goal for Union, he secured a 3-2 win at FC Karl-Marx-Stadt in stoppage time and thus relegation to the GDR league . In the following period Maek stayed in Wuhlheide until 1994 , but left the club with the second division license refused by the DFB.

Afterwards Maek was active at Union 06 Berlin and returned to BFC Dynamo in 1995. At the BFC, Maek worked in various functions as co-trainer, trainer and managing director. In the following years Maek acted as a coach at the lower class SV Sparta Lichtenberg and as an old league player at Weißenseer FC .
