Dirk Schlegel (born June 14, 1961 in Berlin ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

1978 Dirk was Schlegel with the BFC Dynamo Junior champion of the GDR . He then played for the BFC in the GDR Oberliga , before he and his teammate Falko Götz fled to the German embassy in Yugoslavia on November 3, 1983 before the European Cup game in Dynamo Berlin at FK Partizan Belgrade . After escaping, he was banned from FIFA for one year due to the rules in force at the time.

In the Bundesliga he played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen , VfB Stuttgart and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin from 1984 to 1987 .

After his playing career it became known that in 1983, like other dynamo players, he had been tested positive for doping substances by the Central Institute of the Sports Medical Service of the GDR . Schlegel said he only knew he had been given stimulants once.

In 2006 Schlegel was an amateur trainer at Hertha BSC . In the 2007/08 season he succeeded Daniel Meyer as coach at FC Strausberg (Brandenburgliga / Verbandsliga). He then worked as a players agent .

At the beginning of November 2018, second division Holstein Kiel signed Schlegel as the new chief scout.
