Gerda Wachowius

Gerda Wachowius (born Mans ; born October 30, 1908 in Erfurt ; † January 17, 1981 there ) was a German politician ( SED ). She was State Secretary in the GDR from 1954 to 1956 .

Life

Gerda Wachowius became a factory worker after attending elementary school. In 1923 she became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) and in 1929 of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In 1929 she became Polleiterin the KJVD subdistrict Erfurt, 1930 candidate and 1931 member of the central committee of the KJVD. In early 1932 she went to Berlin and at the end of 1932 went to Moscow. There she worked until August 1933 as an employee of the Communist Youth International (KJI).

After her return to Germany, she did illegal resistance work as an instructor for the Central Committee of the KJVD in Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig. In 1934, by decision of the party, she went to the Saar region and in 1935 emigrated to France . She was interned there from May to August 1940. In March 1943 she was arrested by the Gestapo . On August 13, 1943 she was sentenced to four years in prison by the higher regional court (OLG) Kassel for “preparation for high treason” and locked in the Waldheim prison .

After the liberation she became a member of the KPD again in 1945 and of the SED in 1946. From 1945 to 1948 she worked as an employee of the youth welfare office and the SED district leadership in Erfurt. From 1948 to 1950 she worked in the office of Hermann Matern in the Central Committee of the SED. She was then a member of the State Control Commission (LKK) Thuringia until 1949 and from 1950 to August 1954 a member of the Central Commission for State Control (ZKK). From August 16, 1954 to July 1956, she worked as State Secretary and First Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Trade and Supply of the GDR (successor to Friedrich Schneiderheinze ). She was then from 1956 to 1958 city district councilor or deputy district mayor in Berlin-Mitte . In 1958 she went to Erfurt and served as secretary of the Erfurt District Council until 1960 . At the same time she was a member of the Erfurt District Assembly .

Gerda Wachowius was the mother of a son in her first marriage under the name Linz. From 1954 she was married to the SED functionary Heinz Wachowius (1909–2002) for the second time.

Wachowius last lived in Erfurt-Mitte and was chairman of the VdN district commission of the city of Erfurt and a member of the management committee of the anti-fascist resistance fighters . She died at the age of 72 and was buried in the main cemetery in Erfurt.
