Darrel Joseph Mitchell (born May 3, 1984 in New Iberia , United States ) is an American basketball player. He last played for Spartak Vladivostok in Russia .

career

Mitchell was born and raised in the US state of Louisiana . On the St. Martinville High School basketball team, his father, Darrel Mitchell the Senior, was his coach. Mitchell also did athletics ( long jump ) and American football in his youth . After the 2001/02 season, his good basketball performance earned him the “Mr. Basketball ”through the Louisiana State Sports Reporters' Association.

Mitchell received a scholarship from Louisiana State University and played for the college's basketball team from 2002 to 2006. In his final season 2005/06 Mitchell was the second best thrower of his team with an average of 16.8 points per game, "LSU" reached the semi-finals of the NCAA playoffs in spring 2006 . In the course of his four years at Louisiana State University he scored 258 three-point throws in 127 games, no other player in the history of the LSU basketball team had met more "threes" before him.

Mitchell did not make the leap into the NBA , so the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul was the starting point of a professional career that took him to several European countries in the years to come. He also gained extensive experience in European club competitions. In the 2008/09 season he was selected by the Internet service eurobasket.com in the team of the year of the Cypriot first division. In 2015 he led AS Monaco to win the championship title in the French ProB league and thus to promotion to the top division in France. After this team success, he also received an award for his personal achievements and was named ProB's Player of the Year (named by eurobasket.com ).

In the 2016/17 season he reached the final of the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in Germany with the Oettinger Rockets , which  meant the Thuringians were promoted to the basketball Bundesliga for the first time . He contributed to this success in 26 missions with an average of 11.8 points and 3.8 basket assists. At the end of 2017, Mitchell and the Thuringians separated. At the end of January 2018, he moved to the Russian second division club Spartak Vladivostok .
