New Iberia (French La Nouvelle-Ibérie ; Spanish Nueva Iberia ) is a city and the Parish Seat of the Iberia Parish in Louisiana .
According to the 2010 United States Census , the city had 30,617 residents compared to the year 2000 when the population was 32,623. The population decrease between 2000 and 2010 was 2,006 inhabitants. The city is 48 km southeast of Lafayette .

New Iberia is located in southern Louisiana. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of 27.5 km², of which 27 km² are land and 0.5 km² are water.
Demographics
The 2000 census found 32,623 people, 11,765 households and 8,335 families living in the city. The population density was 1208.3 per km². There were 12,880 housing units at an average density of 470.9 per km². 56.99% White, 38.42% African American, 2.64% Asians, 0.21% Indians, 0.02% Pacific Islanders, 0.51% other races and 1.2% with two or more races lived here. Latin Americans made up 1.49% of the population.
The age distribution was as follows: 29.8% were under 18 years of age, 9.7% were between 18 and 24, 26.8% were between 25 and 44, 20.4% were between 45 and 64 and 13.3% were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 34 years.
