Silges is a district of the municipality of Nüsttal in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda . It is located on the middle course of the Nüst and has around 380 inhabitants and an area of 3.8 km².
The village was first mentioned as Selhees or Selches in the year 1300, when the transfer of income to the monastery by the Prince Abbot Heinrich V von Weilnau (1288-1313) was recorded in a document. However, Silges was already there in the Hallstatt period around 400 BC. Inhabited, which is evidenced by an urn field from this time . The origin of the place name is not clearly clarified, it could either mean settlement of the Siegwolf or indicate pastureland .
The Lords of Wolferts and von Buchenau were wealthy in Silges. Since 1510 the distinction between Über- and Niedersilges has developed. The road from Fulda to Geisa that was built in the early Middle Ages led through Silges.
Both administratively and ecclesiastically belonged Silges in much of its history to the place Hofaschenbach . The former chapel of Silges, built in 1656, was a branch of the Hofaschenbach parish . She fell victim to the new construction of the current Church of St. Odilia .
On February 1, 1971, Silges was merged with five other municipalities to form the new municipality of Nüsttal as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
