Patrick Thomas Caffery (born July 6, 1932 in Franklin , St. Mary Parish , Louisiana , † December 17, 2013 in New Iberia , Louisiana) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1973 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Patrick Caffery was the grandson of Donelson Caffery (1835-1906), who had represented the state of Louisiana in the US Senate between 1893 and 1901 . He attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Southwestern Louisiana . After a subsequent law degree at Louisiana State University and his admission to the bar in 1956, he began to work in this profession in New Iberia. In 1955 and 1956 he was also involved in the publication of the newspaper "Louisiana Law Review".

Politically, Caffery joined the Democratic Party . Between 1958 and 1962 he was the assistant district attorney in the 16th judicial district of his state. From 1964 to 1968 he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives . In the 1968 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Edwin E. Willis on January 3, 1969 , whom he had beaten in the primary . After re-election in 1970, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1973 .

In 1972, Patrick Caffery decided not to run again for Congress. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer in New Iberia.
