Chris John (politician)
Christopher "Chris" John (born January 5, 1960 in Crowley , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 2005 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Chris John attended Notre Dame High School in Acadia Parish until 1978 . He then studied until 1982 at Louisiana State University in Shreveport . Between 1974 and 1982 he was intermittent assistant to his father, John N. John , who was a member of the House of Representatives from Louisiana . Chris John became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1988 and 1996 he also sat in the state parliament. He was also a member of the local chamber of commerce.
In the 1996 congressional elections , John was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Jimmy Hayes on January 3, 1997 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2005 . In 2004 he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate ; with a share of 29 percent of the vote, he was only in second place behind the victorious Republican David Vitter .
Chris John has worked as a lobbyist since leaving the US House of Representatives. He is married to Payton Smith, with whom he has two sons.
