James H. Morrison (1939)

James Hobson Morrison (born December 8, 1908 in Hammond , Louisiana , † July 20, 2000 ibid) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Morrison attended Hammond public schools. He then went to the Law Department of Tulane University in New Orleans , where he Jura studied. He received his Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor degrees in 1934 . He was also admitted to the bar that same year and began practicing in Hammond. He ran once again in 1939 and again unsuccessfully for governor in 1944 . He was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1956 and 1960 .

He was elected to the 78th and 11 subsequent US Congresses , where he served from January 3, 1943 to January 3, 1967. He ran again in 1966 for re-election in the 90th US Congress , but failed and returned to the work as a lawyer. During his tenure in Congress in 1956 he was involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions. He died in Hammond on January 20, 2000.
