James Michael "Mike" Johnson (born January 30, 1972 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Since January 3, 2017, he has represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mike Johnson studied business administration at Louisiana State University until 1995 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1996, he began to work in this profession. He was also dean of the Pressler School of Law at Louisiana College . He also works as a consultant to a number of organizations. In his home country he is a member of numerous organizations and associations.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 2015 he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives, which he served until he took office in Congress. In the 2016 congressional election , Johnson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Louisiana’s fourth constituency in Washington, DC , where he succeeded John C. Fleming , who was no longer running in 2016, on January 3, 2017 . In the election, the special feature of the so-called Jungle Primary came about on November 8, 2016. Johnson came second behind the Democrat Marshall Jones. In the runoff election on December 10th, Johnson then won 65.2 percent of the vote.

In January 2020, he joined the White House advisory team on the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump .
