John Morgan Landrum (born July 3, 1815 in Edgefield County , South Carolina , †  October 18, 1861 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) was an American politician . Between 1859 and 1861 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good elementary school education, John Landrum attended South Carolina College in Columbia until 1842 , which later became the University of South Carolina . After that he taught himself as a teacher for a few years. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1844, he began to work in Shreveport in his new profession.

Politically, Landrum became a member of the Democratic Party . He was Mayor of Shreveport in 1848 and 1849. In the congressional election of 1858 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded John M. Sandidge on March 4, 1859 . For the elections of 1860 he decided not to run again. Due to the political situation, there would not have been another legislative period in 1861 anyway because the state of Louisiana did not send any more members to Congress after leaving the Union shortly before the start of the civil war . Landrum's term officially ended on March 3, 1861.

After leaving the House of Representatives, John Landrum returned to work as a lawyer. But he died on October 18, 1861 in Shreveport.
