Phanor Breazeale

Phanor Breazeale (born December 29, 1858 in Natchitoches Parish , Louisiana , †  April 29, 1934 in Natchitoches , Louisiana) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1905 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Phanor Breazeale was educated in private schools. He then worked in retail for two years. He was then an administrative clerk at the Louisiana Supreme Court. After studying law at Tulane University in New Orleans and being admitted to the bar in 1881, he began working in his new profession in Natchitoches. From 1882 to 1884 he was also active in the newspaper business.

Between 1888 and 1891 Breazeale was a member of the school board in Natchitoches Parish; from 1892 to 1900 he worked as a district attorney in the tenth judicial district of his state. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1898 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Louisiana constitution. In the congressional election of 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Henry Warren Ogden on March 4, 1899 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1905 . He was no longer nominated by his party for the elections of 1904.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Breazeale initially worked as a lawyer again. In 1908 he became a member of a commission to revise the penal laws of Louisiana. Also in 1908 he was a board member of his party at the state level. In 1908 and 1916 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1921 he was a member of an assembly to recast the state constitution. Phanor Breazeale died in Natchitoches on April 29, 1934.
