John H. Harmanson

John Henry Harmanson (born January 15, 1803 in Norfolk , Virginia , †  October 24, 1850 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1850 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After primary school, graduated from John Harmanson the Jefferson College in Washington ( Mississippi ). In 1830 he moved to Avoyelles Parish , Louisiana. There he worked a cotton plantation; then he studied law .

Politically, Harmanson joined the Democratic Party , for which he sat in the Louisiana Senate in 1844 . In the congressional elections of the same year he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of his state , where he succeeded John Bennett Dawson on March 4, 1845 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on October 24, 1850 . These were shaped by the events and consequences of the Mexican-American War . Between 1845 and 1847 Harmanson chaired the Post Office's Expenditure Review Committee. He was buried in the Moreau Plantation Cemetery in Pointe Coupee Parish .
