John C. Fleming

John Calvin Fleming (born July 5, 1951 in Meridian , Mississippi ) is an American politician . Since 2009 he has represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives . Since he waived a possible re-election in 2016, he resigned from Congress on January 3, 2017. Instead, he applied for the US Senate without success .

Career

John Fleming studied at the University of Mississippi at Oxford until 1973 . He then completed a medical degree at this university until 1976. From 1976 to 1982 he was a soldier in the US Navy . In the following years Fleming practiced as a doctor. Between 1996 and 2000 he was a forensic doctor at Webster Parish , Louisiana. He also runs a number of 30 sandwich shops in northern Louisiana.

Politically, Fleming is a member of the Republican Party . In the 2008 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Jim McCrery on January 3, 2009 . In 2010 he was confirmed in his mandate with 62 percent of the vote. After two further re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 2017. Fleming served on the Armed Forces Committee and the Mineral Resources Committee. He was also represented on several sub-committees. In 2016 he decided not to run again. Instead, he sought unsuccessfully for election to the US Senate. Fleming is married and lives privately in Minden .
