Jeffrey Martin "Jeff" Landry (born December 23, 1970 in St. Martinville , St. Martin Parish , Louisiana ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2013 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jeff Landry attended Saint Martinville Senior High School through 1988 . He then served in his state's National Guard until 1998. In 1999 he graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette . After studying law at Loyola University in New Orleans and being admitted to the bar in 2004, he began practicing this profession. At times he also worked in the police service. He also worked as a private businessman. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 2007 he ran unsuccessfully for the Louisiana Senate .

In the 2010 congressional election , Landry was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Democrat Charlie Melancon on January 3, 2011 . In Congress , he was a member of the Natural Resources Committee , the Committee on Small Business, and the Transport and Infrastructure Committee . In the 2012 congressional election , Landry had to face his party colleague Charles Boustany , whose seventh constituency had been dissolved. Since no candidate achieved an absolute majority, Louisiana law required a runoff election in which Landry lost 39:61 percent of the vote to Boustany. He resigned from parliament on January 3, 2013.

On November 21, 2015, Landry won the runoff for the office of Attorney General of Louisiana against the Republican incumbent Buddy Caldwell with 56:44 percent of the vote. On January 11, 2016, he was able to replace Caldwell with it.

Landry is married and has one son.
