Richard Hugh Baker (born May 22, 1948 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Between 1987 and 2008 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Richard Baker studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge until 1971 . He then started a real estate company in Baton Rouge. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party at the time . Between 1972 and 1986 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Louisiana for this party . There he was temporarily chairman of the transport committee.

In 1986, Baker joined the Republicans after internal party disputes . In the 1986 congressional elections , he was elected as their candidate in the sixth constituency of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Henson Moore on January 3, 1987 . After ten re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on February 2, 2008 . There he was temporarily chairman of the subcommittee on capital markets. He was also a member of the Infrastructure Committee and the Veterans Committee.

On February 2, 2008, Richard Baker stepped down from his Congressional mandate to work as a lobbyist for the Managed Funds Association .
