Clyde Cecil Holloway (born November 28, 1943 in Lecompte , Louisiana , † October 16, 2016 in Forest Hill , Louisiana) was an American politician ( Republican ). Between 1987 and 1993 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clyde Holloway attended Forest Hill High School until 1961 and was then at the National Aeronautics School in Kansas City , Kansas . He then became a businessman and became chairman of the board of directors of Forest Hill Neighborhood School .

Politically, Holloway joined the Republican Party. In 1980 he ran for the first time unsuccessfully for Congress . In the 1986 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Catherine Small Long on January 3, 1987 . After two re-elections, he was able to represent his district in the US House of Representatives until January 3, 1993. At this point the eighth constituency was dissolved. In 1991 Holloway ran unsuccessfully for governor of Louisiana. He finished fourth in the first ballot and was eliminated.

In 2003, Holloway's candidacy for the post of lieutenant governor of Louisiana failed ; he was defeated by Mitch Landrieu . Between 2006 and 2009 he worked for the US Department of Agriculture . He was responsible for rural development in Louisiana. Since 2009, he has served in the Louisiana state government as Public Service Commissioner responsible for public services. Holloway was married and had four children.
