Paul Herbert Maloney (born February 14, 1876 in New Orleans , Louisiana , †  March 26, 1967 there ) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1947 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Paul Maloney first attended the common schools and then Mrs. Ashe's Private School in Pass Christian in the state of Mississippi . In the following years he worked in various industries and companies. Among other things, he worked for a company that procured materials for bed linen, a shipping company and an automobile wholesaler. Between 1895 and 1898, Maloney was a member of the Louisiana National Guard . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1914 and 1916 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Louisiana ; from 1917 to 1920 he was a member of the levee commission of New Orleans, as its president he served in the years 1919 and 1920. After that he was commissioner for the public utilities until 1925 . From 1924 to 1936 he was a delegate to all Democratic National Conventions .

In the 1930 congressional election , Maloney was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded James Z. Spearing on March 4, 1931 . After four re-elections, he remained in Congress until his resignation on December 15, 1940 . During this time, most of the federal government's New Deal laws were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In addition, the 20th and 21st amendments to the constitution were discussed and put into effect.

For the 1940 election , Maloney was not nominated for another term by his party. He then resigned his mandate prematurely a few weeks before the end of the legislative period. On January 3, 1941, the newly elected Hale Boggs succeeded him in the US House of Representatives. For the next two years, Maloney headed the New Orleans District Tax Department. In the 1942 elections he was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the second district of Louisiana. There he replaced Hale Boggs on January 3, 1943. After confirmation in 1944, he was then able to complete two further terms in Congress until January 3, 1947. During this time the Second World War ended .

In 1946 Maloney renounced another candidacy. His mandate then fell back to Hale Boggs, who would hold it in 1973. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to the freight forwarding industry. Paul Maloney died on March 26, 1967 at the age of 91 in his native New Orleans. He was married to Adeline Lecourt Maloney (1879–1968).
