Thomas Jerald "Jerry" Huckaby (born July 19, 1941 in Hodge , Jackson Parish , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 1993 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jerry Huckaby attended high school in Minden until 1959 and then studied until 1963 at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge . He then completed another degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta until 1968 . In the following years he became a businessman. Among other things, he ran the Hallmark Farms in Ringgold as a farmer . He also worked for the Western Electric Co. in Chicago until 1973 .

Politically, Huckaby joined the Democratic Party . In the 1976 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Otto E. Passman on January 3, 1977 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . During this time he was a member of the Agriculture Committee for ten years. He headed the subcommittee that dealt with the cultivation of cotton, rice and sugar. Huckaby was also a temporary member of the budget and home affairs committee.

In 1992, Huckaby was not re-elected. This was due to an unfavorable reorganization of the electoral districts in Louisiana, which had become necessary after the loss of a district due to the population development. Huckaby did not return to Louisiana after being voted out of office. He settled in Virginia , where he took over his wife Suzanna Woodword's real estate business. His wife died in 2008. Huckaby has a daughter; his son died in 2002. Jerry Huckaby has been married for a second time since 2010. The couple live in Great Falls , Virginia.
