William Henson Moore III (born October 4, 1939 in Lake Charles , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Between 1975 and 1987 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henson Moore attended Baton Rouge High School until 1958 and then studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge until 1961 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1973, he began to work in his new profession. Between 1965 and 1967 Moore was a soldier in the US Army .

Politically, he first became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1968 he joined the Republicans as a supporter of Richard Nixon . Between 1971 and 1975 he was a member of his party's state board in Louisiana. In 1984 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Dallas , where President Ronald Reagan was nominated for a second term. In the 1974 congressional election , which had to be repeated due to election challenges in his constituency , Moore was elected for the sixth seat of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took over from John Rarick on January 7, 1975 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1987 .

In 1986, Henson Moore waived a possible re-election in favor of a then unsuccessful candidacy for the US Senate . Between 1987 and 1989 he was a member of the Panama Canal Consultative Committee ; 1989-1992, he served as deputy energy minister ( Deputy Secretary of Energy ). He was then from 1992 to 1993 under President George Bush as the successor to Andrew Card Deputy Chief of Staff of the White House ( Deputy Chief of Staff ). Moore was also chairman of the board of the American Forest & Paper Association and, through 2007, the International Forest & Paper Association . Today he is a board member of the American Council for Capital Formation and the United States - New Zealand Council . Moore is married to Carolyn Cherry, born in 1941, with whom he has three grown children.
