James Otis "Jim" McCrery III (born September 18, 1949 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Between 1988 and 2009 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jim McCrery studied at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston until 1971 . After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1975, he began working in a large law firm in his new profession. In 1979 he became a member of the staff of Congressman Buddy Leach . He was also the Shreveport City Trial Attorney until 1980. He then worked for Congressman Buddy Roemer until 1984 . McCrery became a member of the Republican Party .

Following the resignation of Buddy Roemer, McCrery was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when the by-election was due for the fourth seat of Louisiana . There he took up his new mandate on April 16, 1988. After ten re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 2009 . Between 1993 and 1997, however, he represented the fifth electoral district there , while in the other years he was a member of the fourth district. This was due to a new division and renaming of the districts. McCrery served on three subcommittees of the Committee on Ways and Means .

In 2008, McCrery waived another congressional candidacy. Since then he has worked for a lobby company in Washington. Jim McCrery is married with two children. The family lives privately in Shreveport.
