Vance McAllister (2013)

Vance McAllister (* 7. January 1974 in Oak Grove , West Carroll Parish , Louisiana ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From November 16, 2013 to January 3, 2015, he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives in the 5th constituency of Louisiana.

McAllister served in the United States Army as a medic from 1992-1994 after high school. He later moved to the Louisiana National Guard. He broke off his studies at the University of Louisiana at Monroe . McAllister operates numerous companies in different business fields.

His election to the US House of Representatives, after the previous member Rodney Alexander had withdrawn, came as a surprise. He not only prevailed in the open party primary on October 19, 2013 against Democrat Jamie Mayo , but also later in the runoff election against the much more experienced Republican State Senator Neil Riser . In November 2013, McAllister's oath of office was taken in Congress , who then moved on to the committees on agriculture and natural resources . He is considered to be moderately conservative.

In April 2014 calls for McAllister to resign were raised. A video that was made public showed him kissing a member of his staff. McAllister, married since 1997 and father of five children, initially stated that he wanted to remain in office. Soon after, he announced that he would not be re-elected, which he later withdrew. In the non-partisan election on November 4, 2014, McAllister finished fourth with 11.1 percent of the vote, making his departure from Congress on January 3, 2015 certain. Since no candidate received the required absolute majority, there was a runoff for the seat, which Republican Ralph Abraham won against Jamie Mayo.
