Bannon Goforth Thibodeaux

Bannon Goforth Thibodeaux (born December 22, 1812 in Thibodaux , Louisiana , †  March 5, 1866 in Terrebonne Parish , Louisiana) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1849 he represented the state of Louisiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born on the St. Bridget Plantation, Bannon Thibodeaux attended public schools in his home country. After completing a law degree in Hagerstown ( Maryland ) and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in his new profession in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish .

Politically, Thibodeaux joined the Democratic Party . In 1845 and 1852 he was a delegate to meetings to revise the Louisiana constitution. He also held a few local offices. In the congressional elections of 1844 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Louisiana , where he succeeded Alcée Louis la Branche on March 4, 1845 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1849 . These were shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Thibodeaux worked again as a lawyer in his home country. There he also worked as a sugar cane planter and craftsman. Bannon Thibodeaux died on March 5, 1866 in Terrebonne Parish.
