The Louisiana House of Representatives ( Louisiana House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Louisiana State Legislature , the Legislature of the State of Louisiana .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 105 members, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 42,500 inhabitants (as of 2000). The MPs are each elected for four-year terms. The Louisiana House of Representatives is one of only five lower houses in the United States where this occurs. Almost all of the other lower houses, including the US House of Representatives , are elected for a two-year term. The terms of office are limited to three terms (twelve years).

The House of Representatives boardroom, along with the State Senate, is located in the Louisiana State Capitol in the capital Baton Rouge .

Structure of the chamber

The Speaker of the House is the Chairman of the House of Representatives . He is also responsible for the legislative process and oversees appointments to the various committees. The House of Representatives also chooses the speaker pro tempore in order to step in for the speaker if the speaker fails.

The current speaker is the Republican Chuck Kleckley , the Democrat Walt Leger, III acts as speaker pro tempore .
