The New York State Assembly is the lower house of the New York State Legislature , the legislature of the US state of New York .

The Parliament Chamber is composed of 150 members, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 127,000 inhabitants. The MPs are each elected for two-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. The State Assembly's boardroom, along with the New York Senate, is located in the State Capitol in the capital, Albany .

Structure of the chamber

The speaker has the chair. He is first elected by the majority parliamentary group in the chamber before confirmation by the entire parliament follows. The speaker is also responsible for the legislative process and oversees the assignments to the various committees.

Other important office holders are the majority leader and the opposition leader ( minority leader ), who are elected by the respective parliamentary groups.
