Idaho Senate
The Idaho Senate ( Idaho State Senate ) is the upper house of the Idaho Legislature , the legislature of the US state of Idaho .
The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 35 senators, each representing an electoral district. The senators are each elected for two-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. The Idaho Senate is one of 14 upper houses in the US states, whose members are each elected for two years; four-year legislatures are more common.
The Senate Boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Idaho State Capitol in the capital Boise .
Tasks of the Senate
As in the upper houses of other states and territories as well as in the US Senate , the Idaho Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.
Structure of the chamber
The President of the Senate is the acting Vice-Governor . He only takes part in votes in order to bring about a decision in the event of a stalemate. In the absence of the Vice-Governor, the respective President presides over the plenary sessions pro tempore . This is elected by the majority parliamentary group in the Senate and later confirmed by the Chamber. The current lieutenant governor and Senate president has been Republican Brad Little since January 2009 , and President pro tempore of Republicans Brent Hill from the 34th constituency ( Rexburg ) (as of August 2016).
For majority leader ( Majority leader ) Republican was Bart Davis from the constituency 33. ( Idaho Falls selected); Opposition leader ( minority leader ) is the Democrat Michelle Stennett from the 25th constituency ( Ketchum ) (as of August 2016).
