Alabama House of Representatives
The Alabama House of Representatives ( Alabama House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Alabama Legislature , the Legislature of the State of Alabama .
The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 105 members, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units has an average of 42,380 inhabitants. The MPs are each elected for four-year terms; there is no limit to the terms of office. The Alabama House of Representatives is one of only five lower houses in the United States where this occurs. Virtually all of the other lower houses, including the US House of Representatives , are elected for a two-year term.
The House of Representatives boardroom, along with the State Senate, is located in the Alabama State House in the capital, Montgomery .
Structure of the chamber
The Speaker of the House is the Chairman of the House of Representatives . He is first elected by the majority parliamentary group in the chamber before confirmation by the entire parliament follows. The speaker is also responsible for the legislative process and oversees the assignments to the various committees. The current speaker is Mike Hubbard , Republican MP from the 79th electoral district ( Lee County ).
Other important office holders are the majority leader and the opposition leader ( minority leader ), who are elected by the respective parliamentary groups. Majority leader of the Republicans is Micky Hammon from the 4th electoral district ( Limestone and Morgan Counties ). The Democratic minority faction is currently led by Craig Ford from the 28th electoral district ( Etowah County ). In addition to these three important positions, there is also the Speaker Pro Tempore . The current position is Victor Gaston , Republican MP from 100th electoral district ( Mobile County ).
