The Ohio Senate ( Ohio State Senate ) is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly , the legislature of the US state of Ohio .

The Chamber of Parliament is composed of 33 senators, each representing an electoral district. Each of these fixed units comprises an average of 330,000 citizens. Furthermore, a Senate district is made up of three of the 99 districts of the House of Representatives . The senators are each elected for four-year terms. In addition, these terms of office are staggered so that half of the senators are re-elected every two years. The term of office is limited to two consecutive terms (eight years). Should an appointment be made to terminate the remaining term of another Senator, it will not be counted.

The Senate boardroom, along with the House of Representatives, is located in the Ohio Statehouse in the capital, Columbus .

Tasks of the Senate

As in the upper houses of other states and territories as well as in the US Senate , the Ohio Senate has special tasks compared to the House of Representatives that go beyond legislation. It is the responsibility of the Senate to confirm or reject nominations by the governor in his cabinet, other executive offices, commissions and authorities.
