Rexburg is a city and the administrative seat of Madison County in the US state of Idaho .
geography
Rexburg is on the eastern edge of the Snake River Plain near the St. Anthony Sand Dunes , at the western entrance to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton . The third Mormon temple in Idaho was built in Rexburg . The city covers an area of 12.8 km² (5.0 mi²), of which 0.2 km² is water.
history
Rexburg was very badly damaged by the breach of the Teton Dam on June 5, 1976 . The entire northern part of the city was under water for days. In this disaster, 11 people lost their lives and more than 13,000 people lost their homes. The dam was not rebuilt after the destruction.
