Basket Club Ostende is a basketball -Verein from Ostend on the Belgian North Sea Coast in West Flanders , the date with the sponsors name as BC Oostende Filou takes up the corporate name in the highest Belgian league. The club, which was founded in 1970 from VG Ostend , is one of the most successful Belgian club teams with currently 20 national championships and 19 cup wins. In addition, the club won the Benelux Cup in its only event .

history

The previous club Van Neste Genootschap Oostende was four times runner-up and one cup winner. After the relegation of this club, BC Ostend was founded, whose first team competed under the sponsor name Sunair Oostende until 1999 . After the immediate promotion, they only stayed in the first division for one season. From the 1973/74 season, however, you could establish yourself permanently in the top Belgian league.

1979 saw the club's first title success with the cup, which was followed by the most successful phase from 1981 to 1986 when they won six championships in a row, four of them as doubles in connection with the cup victory. After the championship was missed in 1987, another championship succeeded in 1988 and also the Benelux Cup victory in its only event, followed by two further victories in the Belgian Cup in 1989 and 1991.

After that, another championship was not achieved until 1995, which was followed by two more cup successes in 1997 & 1998. Another double from championship and cup finally succeeded in 2001 under the new sponsor name Telindus Oostende , after losing in the respective finals in the previous season. In 2002 the championship title could be defended, the same was achieved in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 they won the cup for the last time under the name Telindus, the next cup victory in 2010 was won as BASE Oostende .

From 2010 to 2017 the name of the team was Telenet Oostende . In 2012, the next championship success was achieved with a win in extra time in the decisive fifth final game over the series champion Spirou BC Charleroi . In the following season they beat Okapi Aalstar in the cup final with one point and won the cup for the first time under the new name. In the final series for the championship, Ostend faced Belfius Mons-Hainaut this time , whom they defeated in three games and defended the title. In the 2013/14 season you could defend the national double. After a final victory in the cup competition over the Antwerp Giants , they beat Okapi Aalstar in five games in the championship final series. In 2015 the double was defended.
